Douglas A. Petersen, DMD
Dr. Douglas A. Petersen has been providing the highest standard of dental care in Nephi for over 18 years. After serving an LDS mission in Scotland, he completed his undergraduate work at Southern Utah University and Utah State University. He received his DMD degree at Temple University. Highly esteemed by his professors and fellow doctors, he was named “The Best General Dentist” in his graduating class.
Dr. Doug’s passion is giving others a reason to smile. He has extensive experience in cosmetic dentistry and has been featured in Bridal Guide Magazine, as well as Martha Stewart Wedding Magazine, for being one of the leading Lumineer doctors in Utah. He loves to witness the look on his patients’ faces as they see their new smile for the first time. He believes everyone should be able to smile with confidence.
He loves serving the community and always treats his patients like trusted friends and neighbors. He is dedicated to providing the most up-to-date and cutting-edge materials, techniques, and technology available and is excited about the advancements the new office being built summer of 2020 will provide for his patients. Dr. Doug is a member of the American Dental Association, Utah Dental Association, The Provo District Dental Society, The Academy of General Dentistry, and The International Association for Orthodontics.
Dr. Doug and his wife, Fran, are high school sweethearts and the parents of four amazing kids. Whether they are in the outdoors camping and hunting, having adventures together traveling, or just laughing and relaxing at home, Dr. Doug’s greatest joy is his family. He feels blessed to call them his best friends.
Meet Dr. Andrew
Dr. Andrew Johnson
Bear Canyon Dental is thrilled to welcome Dr. Andrew Johnson as the newest member of our dental team!
Dr. Johnson is a Utah native and grew up in the Orem area. He did his undergraduate training at BYU where he received a Bachelors degree in Biology and a Masters degree in Fisheries biology. He attended dental school at the University of Maryland. After graduating dental school, he practiced in Utah for 7 years before Dr. Johnson and his family decided to try something new and spent the next 5 years living and practicing in Alaska and California. In their words, “As much as we enjoyed our time away, when an opportunity to join a practice like Bear Canyon Dental was made available we jumped at the chance to return home and be a part of such an amazing team!” And we feel just as enthusiastic about them!
Dr. Johnson, his wife Becky, and their 4 children (ages 10-20) are so happy to be back and enjoy all that Utah has to offer. When not at the office, Dr Johnson loves being active in the outdoors with his family. Their favorite activities include hiking, camping, fishing, pickleball and tennis to name a few. He is excited to get to know and serve the people of our great community.

Meet Bear Canyon’s Amazing Team
Tina Coombs – Office Manager
Tina has been a vital part of our team since 2008. She is known for her friendly nature and makes everyone around her feel welcome and cared for. She loves meeting new patients and seeing their smiles transform. She is married to Torry Coombs and has three kids. She loves spending time with family and friends, traveling, camping, and watching her kids play sports. Tina enjoys baking and makes a mean pumpkin chocolate chip cookie.
Sue Ann Whitlock – Dental Hygienist
Sue Ann received her dental hygiene training at Weber State University. She has been working in the dental field for thirty years, and has been helping our patients have beautiful and healthy smiles since 2005. She likes the people she gets to work with and the relationships that she builds with patients. Sue Ann grew up on a dairy farm near Manti, Utah. She is married to her high school sweetheart, Dale Whitlock, and they are the parents of four sons. She enjoys spending time with her family in the mountains, morning runs, sewing quilts, traveling, and being a grandma.
Marie Taylor – Dental Hygienist
Marie is an exceptional dental hygienist who has worked with us since graduating from Montana State University College of Technology in 2008. She is passionate about helping people improve their oral and dental health and is beloved by many patients who appreciate her gentle touch. She is married and has 3 children. In her free time she enjoys being outdoors with her family hiking, fishing, camping and is loving her new title of grandma.
Hailey Allred – Dental Assistant
Hailey has been keeping things running smoothly for Dr. Doug’s patients since 2007. She is a highly skilled assistant who makes patients feel welcome, and helps to make their visit comfortable and efficient. She and her husband, Dusty, live in Fountain Green. They are the parents of three great kids. She enjoys watching her kids play sports, riding horses, hunting, and spending time on the farm with her family working with the sheep.
Jennifer Worwood – Dental Assistant
Jennifer has been a Dental Assistant since 1999 and has been working with Bear Canyon Dental since 2010. Jennifer has a way with kids and is great at helping pediatric patients have a fun and positive experience. Jennifer has been a life-long Juab County resident, and loves living in a small town. She and her husband Travis have two great boys, Justice and Jory and is thrilled to now have daughter -in- laws with a grandbaby on the way! She loves spending time with family and friends and is highly sought after for her custom crochet creations.
Fran Petersen – Dental Assistant/Office Administration
Fran is the wife of Dr. Doug and assists in office administration and with patients who have after hour emergencies. She enjoys party planning and loves to gather family and friends together. Some of her favorite things include one on one conversation, traveling, exploring the mountains with her husband, and baking and creating in her kitchen. Dr. Doug has been her best friend since they were 15 years old and they believe that anything they team up on is sure to be a success.
Jaida Christensen – Receptionist/Dental Assistant
Jaida works as our front office receptionist and as a dental assistant. She loves working with our youngest patients and is always willing to go the extra mile to keep the office running smoothly. Jaida has been a patient of Dr. Petersen’s since she was 3 years old and is thrilled to now be part of our team. She enjoys snowboarding, traveling and spending time with her family. Jaida is married to her high school sweetheart, Teagen, and is thrilled to be building their first home.
Dakota Hare – Dental Hygienist
Dakota graduated from UCDH Utah college of dental hygiene, with a Bachelor of Science in dental hygiene. She loves the career she has chosen because of the opportunity it gives her to interact with patients and help them achieve optimal oral health. Dakota is a lifetime resident of Nephi and loves the small town feel and tight knit community. She and her husband, Brandon, love competitive sports. Dakota was a collegiate athlete playing softball and is currently a personal trainer in addition to a dental hygienist.
Amberlyne Steel – Receptionist
Amberlyne works as our front office receptionist and is the newest member of our team. She is thrilled to be working in the dental field for the first time. She loves getting to know all the patients and enjoys working with her amazing coworkers. She loves traveling, whether that be with friends or family. She loves to see new things and wants to learn all she can about dentistry and hopes to grow with Bear Canyon Dental.
